The Show that made Country Music Famous:

Well, I can check off another thing on my “Nashville to-do list”.  Last night I had the pleasure of going to the Grand Ole Opry for the first time.  I’ve been dying to go ever since I moved to Nashville.  I hope all of you are familiar with the Opry, but if not, let me just give you a little background.  The Opry is a weekly country music stage concert in Nashville, TN that has presented the biggest stars of the genre since 1925.  It is also the LONGEST running broadcasts in history since its beginnings as a one-hour radio “barn dance” on WSM-AM.  In 1939, it debuted nationally on NBC Radio. The Opry moved to a permanent home, the Ryman Auditorium, in 1943.  As it developed in importance, so did the city of Nashville, which became American’s “Country Music Capital”.  Since 1974, the show has been broadcast from the Grand Ole Opry House east of downtown Nashville and performances have been sporadically televised in addition to the radio programs.

Ok, enough with the background….I just wanted to let you know, it’s “kind of a big deal”.  And I must say…my experience was just as incredible as I thought it would be.  This week is CMA Fest here in Nashville, so a lot of great artists are starting to come into town…so we thought we’d check out and see who all was playing at the Grand Ole Opry this week…and sure enough, we found a night with a phenomenal line up.  Check it out:
